DeftEdge conducted an independent evaluation of the “South-South Integration and the SDGs: Enhancing Structural Transformation in Key Partner Countries of the Belt and Road Initiative,” funded by the UN’s 2030 Agenda Sub-Fund and implemented by UNCTAD from November 2018 to April 2022. The project aimed to share China’s developmental experiences through the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) with Global South countries, focusing on accelerating their sustainable development.

The evaluation targeted six outcomes, including enhancing knowledge, capacity building, policy strategy improvement, advisory service usage, software tool adoption, and economic shock management strategies in response to COVID-19. Employing a theory-driven, mixed-methods approach, the evaluation utilized UNEG standards, UNCTAD policy, and OIOS COVID-19 protocols, drawing on primary data from stakeholder consultations and an online survey, along with secondary UNCTAD documents. This rigorous approach ensured the evaluation was credible and comprehensive.
